Ride Rules

We hope that you’re as excited as we are for this event. Here are a few things that you’ll need to know:

Community Respect

Please remember this is a celebration of the community before it is a contest. Consideration for community members, property, noise levels and traffic laws are required of all riders.

Dunce Laps

Dunce Laps will be issued at our discretion to disrespectful or dangerous riders. A dunce lap will not count towards your total lap score. You must apologize to each checkpoint captain to complete a dunce lap.

Start Time

There will be a mandatory riders meeting (all riders must be present) at Freewheel Midtown on the Greenway at 6:40 pm on Friday, August 10. The ride will start promptly at 7:00 pm.

Check-In

Check in for the event will take place from 3-8 pm on Thursday August 9th. Location will be announced closer to the race. You will receive your team or solo rider packet.

Everyone must complete the rider’s waiver to receive an event number and  ride. Your entire team does not need to check in at the same time, but anyone who is riding the Powderhorn 24 is required to sign a waiver before participating. Other event materials and t-shirts will be distributed at check-in

If you can’t check in early, you may do so on race day from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. If you miss the 6:00 pm deadline, you will have to wait until registration re-opens at 8:00 pm.

Safety

Helmets are required at all times and lights are required between dusk and dawn. Your manifest will not be marked without these. Riders are expected to obey the rules of the road and extend courtesy to pedestrians and other vehicles between checkpoints.

Bonus Stops

Bonus checkpoints are optional, but encouraged. You must have your manifest with you when completing the bonus checkpoint. Winning teams will be determined based on total number of ridden laps and bonus laps awarded.
You will be given a list of bonus stops at check-in. Each of the bonus stops will add two bonus laps to your score. Completion of all bonus stops will give you additional bonus laps added to your score.

Volunteering

Teams of three or four will be assigned one volunteer shift. Teams of 5 or 6 will have two volunteer shifts. You must complete your volunteer shift to be eligible for your additional bonus laps.

Food/Bathrooms

We will have port-o-potties near the start available the full 24 hours.  Restrooms inside Freewheel are for customers, please respect this.  During business hours Freewheel sells fresh food and drinks and of course bicycles and cycling accessories.  Please also consider the many neighborhood restaurants and shops for your other meals and needs – ask organizers and fellow riders for recommendations!

Staging Area

If you do not live on the course and would like an area to congregate during the race, there will be a staging area immediately in front of Freewheel. If it rains, the grass can get a little swampy. Plan accordingly. Garbage, recycling and organic recycling containers will be available this year. Please help leave the staging area cleaner than we find it.

Weather

This event will happen rain or shine. We will only cancel the event if tornado sirens start blaring, so make sure to prepare for whatever weather is forecast.

Divisions

Riders participate in one of these divisions:

  • Solo Women
  • Solo Men
  • Team of 2-6 Riders: Women
  • Team of 2-6 Riders: Men
  • Team of 2-6 Riders: Mixed-Gender

Other Notes

  • One rider per team on the course at a time. Multiple team members cannot ride at the same time to earn multiple laps.
  • Riders can be disqualified or have laps deducted for rude or disrespectful behavior towards the event, volunteers, or the community.
  • Riders must obey all traffic laws at all times.
  • All riders must sign a waiver in order to ride and must wear a wrist band to designate that the waiver has been signed.
  • Riders must go to all four checkpoints in order. Checkpoint volunteers will not punch manifests if the previous checkpoint hasn’t been punched.
  • It is the team or riders responsibility to keep their manifest. No laps will be awarded for a lost manifest.
  • The final lap must be completed by or before 7:00 pm on Saturday. The final manifest must be turned in by 7:15 pm for those laps to be counted towards the total score.

HAVE FUN!
